The EarBobs Artist

Since she was a child, Lisa Cox has appreciated the beauty and uniqueness of small objects which most people overlook. While other children played kickball, Lisa combed the playground for interesting items that she could touch and observe with fascination. She recalls discovering a small, empty perfume bottle and thinking it was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen. This ability to see potential within so many different types of materials is what makes Lisa’s EarBobs unique and fun. Her philosophy is to let the beauty and shape of the materials inspire the final form. Each piece is created with the hope that the owner will take pride in wearing earrings that capture their own personal style.

How EarBobs Got Started

EarBobs began in 1992 when Lisa took a trip to Baltimore to visit a friend. While on her trip, she happened upon a bead store tucked behind a dock along the bay.

Upon venturing inside, Lisa felt a rush of emotion as she gazed across the assortment of shapes and colors. Before her eyes were thousands of colored glass beads that called out to her. She spent the next three hours sifting through them, carefully choosing the beads she would take with her.

Upon arriving back home in Saint Louis, Lisa knew what she would create with her bag of treasures—earrings. She spent the next few days crafting beautiful pieces for herself. Her first creations were fish earrings and necklaces that she showed a friend. To Lisa’s surprise, her friend insisted on purchasing a few of the earrings. Though Lisa wasn’t intending on selling or giving her creations to anyone, she was happy that someone had such a strong desire to wear her earrings.

Soon, Lisa was creating new designs made from other materials like broken records, loose hardware and coins. As she began showing more of her designs to friends and family, she found they too wanted to purchase the jewelry and asked her to create special, themed earrings just for them. One day, a colleague of Lisa’s noticed her earrings and said, "Nice EarBobs!" The name stuck, and Lisa found she could no longer ignore her calling to create jewelry that was fun and different, unlike anything her friends and family had ever seen before.
